June 16, my last day in Alaska

These pictures were taken on my last day when we were traveling to Anchorage so I could catch a commercial flight home. We got to Anchorage early so we had time to go through the air museum at Lake Hood. Cliff will be flying the plane back in early July with his son Jese.
I will write down our whole story in this blog in the future.
I would like to start by thanking our wives Karen and Ann, who everyone knows, it wouldn't have been possible without their support. It's not possible to thank everyone who helped us right now, but I will when I write the story.
Thank you for following my blog, and hope you stay tuned for the story.

Fishermen along the Kenai River. We never saw any grizzle bears, but if any were spotted then they would blow the horn twice at the ferry landing to warn fishermen.

Cliff with a fish on

On Tuesday morning June 15 we got up at 5am and went down to the Russian River Ferry and ferried across the river and fished red salmon. We had several fish on but never landed one. In the morning crossing the river it looked like a troop carrier with all the fishermen sitting down both sides of the ferry with there fishing pole between there legs. I would've taken a picture but it was misting out.

Waterfront at Sewart Alaska

Monday June 14, we drove down to Sewart from the cabin on Kenai Lake.

As you can see, fishing is #1 in Sewart Alaska

Drive to Millers Landing

This is the road to Millers Landing which is about three miles south of Sewart. It's the roughest road that we traveled and I'm sure it gets closed alot from falling rocks and snow.

Bad Catch

I tried my hand at fishing but this is all I caught.

Sewart Alaska

Sewart harbor was all clouded in when we got there and it just got worse throughout the day. I was told that Sewart has about 5 clear days of the year where you can see all the mountains surrounding it. Don't know if that's true or not.

Run Cliff Run

I put the wrong picture further down the blog of run Cliff run, and this is the proper picture and that picture is of Lee, Brian, Janice and Cliff in front of the Garage Ma Hall.

Picture taken on Kenai Lake just after midnight.

Kenai Lake facing west.

Picture taken facing west from the shores in front of the cabin. It's hard to capture how beautiful it really is. We saw several Mountain goats and sheep from the deck of the cabin.

Kenai Lake facing south

What a beautiful lake. This picture was taken facing south from the shore in front of Lee and Janice's cabin.

Trophy Room at the cabin

Sorry but I always seem to put the pictures in the wrong order. I'm new at this. Don't ask me where the Marlin came from.

Thank you Janice and Lee

Janice and Lee let us stay in their beautiful cabin on Kenai Lake.

Russian River Ferry

This is the Kenai River but the Russian River is just arount the corner. The ferry is used to haul fishermen to the other side of the river where fishing is better. The steering wheel on the back of the ferry angles the ferry in one direction and the current of the river forces the ferry to the other side. No engines, just angle it one way or the other.

Sunday June 13th Kenai River

We decided to take a run down to the Kenai River to see if they were catching any salmon (reds). No salmon were running so we decided that we would go down to Sewart on Monday and try fishing on Tuesday

Run Cliff Run

This is a picture of Cliff right before the moose decided he didn't like him there.

Lee and Denny

Saturday June 12 Cliff and I drove to Anchorage where I met his sister-in-law Janis, and her husband Lee, and Lee's brother Denny and they live next to each other. We caught them rebuiding a Cessna 185, they were so much fun to talk to and here all their stories. When we left they gave each of us a Alaska license plate
The picture is of Gary, Lee and Denny with the license plate.

Did you guess what it was?

What I'm holding is a whale vertebra. Congrats if you got it right.

This Kenai Lake where the Kenai river starts and we stayed in a beautiful cabin right on the lake. This picture was taken in front of the cabin.

June 13

Cliff in front of Jesse's Piper Cub airplane.
I stayed up till midnight last night so I could go outside and take a picture of the land of the midnight sun.
It's raining outside and that's what they've been calling for, so it's a good time to drive to the Kenai and do some fishing.
Stay tuned.

June 12

This will be the last picture that you will get from me for couple of days because we're going into the bush with the camper. (no internet service)
Hope you have a great weekend.

Alaskan King Crab

I was told that you can't come to Alaska without sampling King Crab. Samples are bigger in Alaska than the lower 48.

Cliff frying up Halibut

June 11, we had Halibut tonight that Jesse and Erin had caught and Cliff fried up.

Guess what this is?

Try guessing what this is and I'll tell you in a couple of days.

Merrill Field

We went to Anchorage today and stopped at Merrill Field which is the busiest general aviation airport in the world, a plane lands every 30 seconds.

Gary and Cliffs brother-in-law Tom

Today I met Cliffs brother-in-law Tom and his wife Karen. Picture of Tom and Gary with a Mountain Sheep horn and skull that Tom found from wolf kills.

You got to love it

They've got more airports around here than we have fish fries. With in ten miles of here there's 20 airports. How can you not love a place like this. We've flown to places in a few hours that would've taken all day to drive.
